Description

The Systemic Research Workshop of AKMA is an annual applied program oriented toward the development of research projects in real-life conditions (project-oriented). The program operates in such a way that participants, under their own responsibility, design and carry out their own research project, while trainers and the peer group provide continuous guidance and supervision. Each participant’s research project functions as both a learning tool and a teaching medium for the workshop as a whole. Research constitutes an important component of psychotherapeutic practice in any setting or support structure. Empirically grounded practices increase knowledge and broaden the horizons of systemic professionals regarding ways to improve their practice.

The meetings will include, among others, the following thematic areas:

  • Epistemology Group process in research
  • Research design and research questions
  • Collection of empirical data
  • Ανάλυση δεδομένων.
  • Data analysis
  • Writing of the research report

Aim

The ultimate aim of the workshop is for each participant to complete a real research project that can be presented at a conference or published in a scientific journal. At the same time, the overall process is intended to become a positive transformative experience both for the individual participant and for the wider group. It is an experience designed to enhance the participants’ professional practice and to have a clear impact on their personal and professional development. It is based on a researcher–practitioner model. Instead of the dominant “Publish or Perish” doctrine of the academic establishment, we promote the idea of Research in service of meaningful practice.

Methodology

AKMA’s Research Workshop organically integrates group process and experiential learning into all phases of the implementation of the research projects. The workshop includes continuous simulations of the research process. At the same time, it presupposes familiarity with the existing published literature in each research field. Participants are therefore required to engage in substantial personal study of the suggested sources, as well as any additional bibliography required for each specific research project.
