Systemic Psychotherapist
Varvara Synodinou was born in Athens in 1981. She is a Systemic Psychotherapist, trained in the Dialectical, Multilevel, Multifocal Systemic Approach to Psychotherapy at the Athenian Institute of Anthropos (AKMA). She began her academic journey in the School of Nursing (Faculty of Health and Welfare Professions) at the Athens University of Applied Sciences, combining her experience in psychiatric nursing with systemic epistemology to offer a holistic and integrative approach to both physical and mental care.
Since 2004, she has been working in the field of Community Psychiatry, gaining extensive experience with individuals suffering from severe mental disorders. For 15 years, she collaborated with the Society for Regional Development and Mental Health (EPAPSY) in supervisory roles within Psychosocial Rehabilitation Housing Units and the Franco Basaglia Day Centre for Psychosocial Interventions. Her work has included family and couples therapy, parent counseling, individual and group psychotherapy, multi-family group therapy, and home-based interventions for adults in psychiatric crisis and their families, grounded in the principles of Open Dialogue.
She is a member of the Training Team at AKMA, contributing to the seminar “Introduction to Systemic Thinking”. She also collaborates as a Systemic Consultant with interdisciplinary staff teams at ALMA (Panhellenic Association for Adapted Activities for children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders and Intellectual Disabilities) and the Day Centre for Adolescents and Young Adults with ASD “In the Courtyard of the World”.
Varvara has long-standing experience in designing and implementing community mental health initiatives, particularly in Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary Education, through experiential workshops for students, teachers, and parents. She has also worked with private-sector organizations, offering specialized Human Resources (HR) services in personal and team coaching.
She currently maintains a private practice, providing individual, group, family, and couples therapy, parental counseling, and interdisciplinary consultation. She is a member of the Hellenic Society for Systemic Therapy (ELESYTH), the Greek branch of the World Association for Psychosocial Rehabilitation (WAPR), and serves on the Organizing Committee of the “Dialogical Practices and Mental Health” Network.
