Sigalas Giannis

Child Psychiatrist, PhD – University of Athens

Giannis Sigalas was trained in family and group psychotherapy at the Athenian Institute of Anthropos (AKMA) under George and Vasso Vassiliou. He is a member of several national and international scientific associations, and is a holder of the European Certificate of Psychotherapy (ECP) awarded by the European Association for Psychotherapy.

He served as Head of Training and Research at the Child Mental Health Center of the National Primary Healthcare Network (formerly IKA). He has worked as a Scientific Associate for the Therapeutic Program “Nostos” of the Therapy Center for Dependent Individuals (KETHEA), as a Child Psychiatry Consultant at summer camps for children with special needs organized by the health insurance funds of the National Bank and Agricultural Bank, and as Coordinator of the Foster Care Training Program for Mothers, co-funded by the European Social Fund and the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and implemented at the Model National Nursery of Kallithea (PEN). He has also collaborated with the Society of Social Psychiatry and Mental Health in the regions of Boeotia and Phocis.

At AKMA, Mr. Sigalas is engaged in family and group psychotherapy, while also participating in numerous training activities within and beyond the Institute. His current professional interests include:
a) The application of family and group psychotherapy in the prevention and treatment of child psychiatric disorders, and
b) The promotion of psychosocial maturation processes—such as interpersonal relationship development, career orientation, and the formation of adult identity—among adolescents and young adults.
