Maria Angelou is a Systemic Psychotherapist, certified by the European Association for Psychotherapy (ECP holder). She holds a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Middlesex University of London.
She has specialized in Systemic Psychotherapy for individuals, groups, families, and wider systems through her training at the Athens Center for the Study of Human Behavior (AKMA).
In 1991–1992, she received training in the United States (Department of Education, NERC, New York) in prevention strategies for substance use in schools and municipalities.
A graduate of the School of Humanities, she further specialized as a Drug Addiction Counselor at the Department of Psychiatry, University of California, San Diego, and was trained in psychotherapeutic techniques for dependent individuals at the Psychiatric Centrum Bloemendaal – Therapeutic Community “Emilie Hoeve” in The Hague, Netherlands (1985), including work in detoxification, rehabilitation, and prison programs.
She is a Certified Adult Educator by the National Organisation for the Certification of Qualifications and Vocational Guidance (EOPPEP) in Greece.
From 1984 to 2012, she worked at KETHEA (Therapy Center for Dependent Individuals) in various leadership roles, focusing on treatment for people with addictions and their families.
