On the occasion of the World Mental Health Day on 10 October, a workshop was held in Mytilene in the form of an experiential workshop titled “Humanitarian Workers in Crisis: Dealing with burnout and promoting resilience to mental health professionals” by NGO Caritas Hellas, with the participation of AIA .
AIA has taken the opportunity to collaborate and chat with professionals at the front line of the refugee.
The aim of the seminar was to take care of the need for support and psychological support for refugee support workers.
25 people, social scientists and other NGO workers working with refugees (eg doctors, nurses, interpreters, etc.) participated in Lesbos. Given the participation of different nationalities, the seminar was held in English.
The workshop has prompted the mobilization of emotion and thought to participants who share common concerns and face similar difficulties. It is noteworthy that the group of participants ended expressing feelings of emotion, gratitude and concern for the deficiencies in the camps as well as for the decisions and changes of the supersystems (political decisions within the Greek government, the European Union) that intervene in the everyday life of workers and refugees. Finally, there was a need for constant supervision of workers.
